"Kimono My House" By Sparks

Image
"Kimono My House" By Sparks, recommended by someone special You can tell just by looking at the cover art what the vibe is going to be. The band itself was founded by two brothers and blends 70's glam rock with more experimental sounds. They are able to capture such an eccentric and spunky sound in all of the songs.  I think this is what makes it such an interesting record. It's groovy and fun to listen to!  6.8/10 I really enjoyed the creativity in their sound. thank you for reading💕xx Alex

"Plans" By Death Cab for Cutie

Image
"Plans" By Death Cab for Cutie They are easily one of my favorite rock bands of the 2000s purely because of their poetic and emotional lyrics paired with their placid sound. It's the perfect album for a slow day to make you feel a sense of life again. the track, "I Will Follow You into the Dark" is a beautiful love song that I think most people can relate to if you've ever loved someone so much you cannot imagine life without them. "Crooked Teeth" is another favorite track on the album. It has a bit of a faster tempo creating a lovely contrast to the other songs on this record. If only they were coming to Texas on their current tour💔. 8.3/10, it perfectly captures the emotion of the 2000s rock and alternative and gives you emotions most music doesn't have anymore.

"My Life" By Mary J Blige

Image
"My Life" By Mary J Blige Arguably one of the best R&B records ever made. Mary J Blige is an incredibly skilled artist whom I will always admire. If you are going to listen to this album I highly recommend the commentary version. She is a storyteller which is beautifully reflected in her music. "My Life", as most R&B tends to be, is a very romantic album. She also uses this album to pay homage to other artists that inspired her. It is her message of thanks to the great artists that have come before. She speaks about how they impacted her which is such a beautiful thing. On the bonus track, she performs an amazing cover of "Natural Woman" which is such a powerful way to end an album. the songs are soulful, lyrical, and backed with beautiful vocals.  This album is a great representation of R&B and the power of women in music. 8.7/10

"El Silencio" by Califanes

Image
"El Silencio" by Califanes   A band recommended to me by a dear friend.  This album was energetic yet emotional, really capturing the angst of the 90's. Although I cannot speak to the lyrics with my high school Spanish education, I was told by an associate they are "kinda emo". the songs itself capture the 90's grunge feeling in the guitar and vocals. the track, "Miercoles de Ceniza", particularly stood out to me with its plinky rhythm and unique sound. If you are looking for a promising Latin rock album, this is a great place to start. overall, 8/10 its a nice album 👍(music is universal, who cares if you dont speak the language)

"Ask Me Tomorrow" by Mojave 3

Image
"Ask Me Tomorrow" by Mojave 3 Mojave 3 is a band founded by 2 members of Slowdive. They have similar sounds and play almost as a Slowdive #2.  "Ask Me Tomorrow" can only be described as a melodic and soft album. All of the tracks are both lyrically, and musically beautiful, dreamy, and romantic. the first track on the album "Love Songs on the Radio" plays a wonderful opening to the album and its themes of love. the tracks seem to almost play a story of falling into, and out of love. the final track "Mercy" is a perfect closing to the album with a clear shift in tone from the previous tracks. the particular lyric, "I can't see your heart, I can't feel your love", from "Mercy" is much more somber in comparison to lines such as "she looks just like an angel" on the opening track.  In conclusion,  "Ask Me Tomorrow" by Mojave 3 receives a 7/10 rating for its poetic lyrics and beautiful, heartfelt, shoeg...
